THE ROOTS OF PETER IN FLORENCE
A story born in the Florentine hills.
A GIN BORN IN TUSCANY
An English history, a deeply Tuscan soul
Tuscany is home to some of the most precious botanicals used in gin production, from juniper berries to orris root. It is precisely from this discovery that the idea for Peter in Florence was born.
Patrick Hoffer, an English entrepreneur with a lifelong connection to Florence and a great passion for gin, decided in 2017 to create a spirit capable of telling the story of this territory through its scents and raw materials.
The name Peter in Florence is a tribute to his father Peter, an Englishman who arrived in Italy after the war and fell deeply in love with Tuscany. When Patrick was just three months old, Peter bought an old mill between Siena and Florence and moved his family there, into the Chianti hills.
From him, Patrick inherited not only the bond with this land, but also a passion for gin and for that evening gin and tonic which, over the years, became a small family ritual.
WHERE IS PETER IN FLORENCE BORN?
An ancient estate in the Florentine hills, where botanicals, history, and distillation meet.
To give shape to the project, Patrick Hoffer chose Podere Castellare di Pelago, the estate of Patrizio Pandolfi, a long-time friend and partner in the venture.
Nestled in the Florentine hills, the estate is the place where Patrizio grew up with his family and today houses an Eco-resort surrounded by 35 hectares of nature and crops, where some of the botanicals used for Peter in Florence, including juniper and iris, also grow.
The origins of the estate date back to the 12th-13th century. Purchased by the Pandolfi family in the 1950s, it was transformed over time into a farm and later into a place dedicated to hospitality and the enhancement of the local area.
Today, in the ancient cellars where wine was once produced, you will find the Peter in Florence distillery. It is here that a centuries-old tradition meets a new vision, giving life to a gin that tells the story of Florence and Tuscany through its botanicals, its history, and its landscape.
